Jett here. A rumor is tearing through the MAGA-sphere right now, and conservatives are furious. The word on the street is that President Trump may be getting ready to endorse one of the most disliked establishment Republicans in Washington. Let’s get into it.

The senator at the center of this firestorm is John Cornyn of Texas. If you follow Republican politics at all, you already know his reputation. Revolver called it out years ago. Cornyn has repeatedly sided with the Swamp over the voters he’s supposed to represent. He could be the worst Republican Senator we've got.

Fourteen Republicans voted to restrict your Second Amendment rights this week. The bill they support would encourage states to adopt Orwellian red flag laws and make it harder for law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms. The lead Republican advocate of the bill was John Cornyn, the Texas Senator who could succeed Mitch McConnell as the next leader of the GOP caucus. This is not the first time Cornyn, a former Majority Whip, has betrayed Middle America to please the Swamp. If he becomes the next majority leader, Republicans would probably be better off letting Democrats keep the reins.

Now fast forward to the Texas Senate primary that was held last Tuesday. Cornyn is the incumbent, but he faced a serious challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, one of the most openly pro-MAGA officials in the state. Paxton is also someone the establishment has tried to take down. A few years ago the Deep State and establishment Republicans teamed up and launched a huge plot to remove him from power. They failed, and Paxton emerged stronger than ever, which only made him a bigger target to the establishment.

The spending numbers in the senate primary race tell the tale. Cornyn poured roughly 78 million dollars into the campaign and still only managed to basically tie Paxton, who spent about 4 million.

So, in the end, neither candidate got over the fifty percent hump because it was a three-way race. Without that third candidate splitting the vote, Paxton likely would have won outright on his own.

That’s what makes the rumor about Trump potentially endorsing Cornyn so bloody explosive.

Trump has survived lawfare, two impeachments, and even two assassination attempts. But endorsing a man who has spent years fighting against the very movement that carried Trump to power would be political suicide.

Trump has always been able to maneuver through political storms. His supporters have watched him walk through situations that would've destroyed any other politician in a heartbeat. But there are some moves that simply can't be explained to the base. Standing up for a man who has worked against nearly everything MAGA voters believe in (and voted for) would be one of those moves. For many MAGA diehards, that would feel like betrayal, not strategy. And look, as someone who’s believed Trump can navigate almost anything politically, this would be one of the hardest moves to defend. I’d go so far as to say it’s impossible. Unless Trump came out and said, “Hey guys, I’m being blackmailed by the establishment. They won’t pass the SAVE Act unless I save this bum" he doesn’t have a prayer.

And that’s why many voices on the right are urging the president to stay out of this race completely.

I do not see a reason why the president needs to make an endorsement in the Texas Senate race right now. That said, endorsing John Cornyn would be a colossal mistake. Few Republican senators are more loathed by the MAGA base and for good reason. And he just got a mere 41% of the primary vote from his own Texas voters. We either gradually purge poseurs like Cornyn and Tillis and Crenshaw or we continue to fume in futility while weak Republicans sabotage the majority will of the American people. No to Cornyn.

At the same time, like I mentioned earlier, people are speculating about whether something bigger is happening behind the scenes, like cutting a deal to save Cornyn’s political career by using the SAVE Act.

In other words, give the voters something they demanded on election day, but only if the establishment keeps its grip on power. Insanity.

Perhaps some grandmaster deal is underway that actually forces the GOP Senate to finally do something productive on behalf of the country and the movement. If so, I will stand corrected. But this group pushing for an endorsement? Some of the biggest saboteurs in the Senate? No thank you

Meanwhile, there are very clear signs that Trump is getting irritated with Paxton. A recent report suggests the president could be leaning toward endorsing Cornyn and has already warned Paxton about continuing the race if that happens.

President Donald Trump appears to be leaning toward endorsing Sen. John Cornyn in the Texas GOP Senate primary, issuing a stark warning to state Attorney General Ken Paxton in an interview with POLITICO.

The president, in a brief phone conversation Thursday morning, said an endorsement will be “made pretty soon” before addressing Paxton, who recently said he would not drop out of the race even if Trump endorses Cornyn.“Well, that’s bad for him to say,” Trump said. “That is bad for him. So maybe, maybe that leads me to go the other direction.”

Trump had previously stated he would ask the candidate he does not endorse to step aside.

Senate Republicans have already asked Trump to back Cornyn, who narrowly pulled ahead of Paxton on Tuesday in the first round of the primary. The two now face a heated runoff, which could last for another three months unless one of them ends their campaign.

Then there’s Cornyn’s actual record, which explains exactly why the MAGA base distrusts him so deeply.

Cornyn also was a huge supporter of the Ukraine war, telling the American people that if we didn't "defeat" Russia in Ukraine, we'd have to fight them here at home. That could be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

On Tuesday, Cornyn also compared the current war in Eastern Europe to World War II when responding to criticism of U.S. involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Ukrainian President VOLODYMYR ZELENSKYY ‘didn’t want to appeal to the hearts of Americans, in other words, but to their heads,'” Cornyn tweeted with a link to The Atlantic piece he quoted. “[T]his was his answer: Help us fight them here, help us defeat them here, and you won’t have to fight them anywhere else.”

Grassroots conservatives have made their feelings about Cornyn painfully clear by booing the hell out of him.

And by far, the most telling moment came in 2023 when Cornyn openly suggested the party should move on from Trump entirely.

DEBRIEFING

The irony is almost too much to deal with. The same senator who tried to push Republicans to move on from Trump, claiming he couldn’t win, is now possibly maneuvering behind the scenes in hopes that Trump will save his own political career.

That’s how out of touch Cornyn has been. He told the country Trump couldn’t win. Now he’s the one who can't win over his own voters in Texas. And instead of stepping aside, the establishment seems to be scrambling to cut a deal.

And you can't help but wonder if this is a blackmail scheme. The American people already voted for election integrity. Now it’s being dangled like a bargaining chip, as if delivering what voters demanded should only happen if the establishment gets something in return.

Hell no.

There's got to be a better way than rescuing the scumbags who fought us every step of the way.
