BRIEFING

Grant here. Modern feminism seems to be on death's door now that women are realizing that a life without men means footing the bill, both literally and figuratively. There's a video floating around online of a young woman's disappointing first date, and all of her frustration is highlighting a big shift where feminists have gone from years of telling men to vanish to waking up and asking where all the gentlemen went. Let’s break it down.

The woman in this clip, eyes full of tears, appears to be living in France or at least dating a French man, and she dishes the details about paying the dinner bill after the man in question said he would take her out, noting how his English suddenly became selectively worse the moment she questioned it.

She then goes on and on about standard dating politics, but at the end she reveals that the guy basically left her on "read" and that she just wants "one fucking gentleman."

DEBRIEFING

Look, this specific situation here can just be a simple dating miscommunication or even a cultural difference, as many European men tend to go "Dutch" on bills, even on a first date. But regardless, what's apparent here is that at least in American culture, things are rapidly shifting from "I don't need no man. I'm a boss babe" to being in literal tears when a man doesn't pay for your dinner.

Modern feminism sold the story that true feminine strength meant shutting men out of the script in literally every aspect. Dating apps, late-night TikTok, and influencer therapy repeated it ad nauseam until it became the norm. Then a real check hit a real table, and the same women who tout themselves as being able to stand on their own two feet now want a "gentleman" who will pay their way.

Basically, we have a culture that told men they were optional, and a lot of decent men believed it. Now the same culture blames “the marketplace of men” for not performing chivalry that feminism spent a decade mocking out of existence. Rising entitlement met shrinking supply, and the result looks like a gentleman shortage when it's really an expectations collision.
