Foreign media sells America as hateful, but real Americans are warm, generous, and human.

The angriest version of America exists almost entirely on television screens.

BREIFING
Jett here. If you only knew America through foreign media and CNN, you would think this place is a snarling, racist pressure cooker held together by duct tape and rage, and the moment foreigners actually land here, that entire story collapses in real time. Let’s get into it.
The pattern is almost embarrassing once you see it. People arrive expecting hostility and chaos, and instead they get big goofy smiles, pleasant small talk, doors held open, and random acts of kindness. There's also a level of friendliness that genuinely throws them off. They make friends faster here than they ever did back home. They describe Americans as upbeat, welcoming, and generous in everyday interactions. Then they try to reconcile that reality with the gross propaganda version of America they were fed by the press, and the disconnect is off the charts.
America has problems, division, and cultural tension just like any country does, but we also have a media machine that profits from exaggerating the worst moments and flattening the rest into caricature. Foreign outlets don’t just mirror that narrative, the run wild with it. They import our most unhinged headlines, strip out context, and sell the world a version of America that barely exists outside of X or TikTok clips and cable news nonsense.
This is why foreigners are so confused when they arrive here. They were promised a country of permanent outrage, and instead they discovered a country of regular people who still know how to be decent to one another. That confusion tells you more about the media than it does about Americans, right?
If you want proof this distortion is real, look at what the BBC did with J6 footage. They edited a video that stripped out context and sequencing, then presented it as evidence that Trump was inciting violence. That framing was later challenged because the full footage didn't support the narrative they pushed. The point wasn't to show viewers what actually went down but to steer them toward a predetermined (left-wing) verdict. When media operates like that, Americans are not being reported on... they are being packaged as villains, and foreign audiences are buying the product.
This clip has been bouncing all over TikTok, and it caught fire for a reason. Non-Americans who actually visited the US were asked what surprised them most once they got here. What they describe doesn’t match the caricature pushed by foreign media and cable news.

This chart shows something the media never likes to admit. When people around the world are asked directly how they feel about Americans, the numbers are overwhelmingly positive. Not abstract opinions shaped by headlines, not activist framing, just lived impressions of Americans.

This next data point cuts straight through the narrative. A massive international survey across 15 countries didn’t find global hatred for Americans. It found the opposite. Tens of thousands of respondents ranked Americans as the world’s coolest nationality, a result that directly contradicts what the media insists the rest of the world thinks about us.

A survey of 30,000 people in 15 nations by the social networking site Badoo.com has found that America ranks as the world’s “coolest nationality.”
Other countries singled out for their hip nature were Brazil (second coolest overall) and Spain (coolest in Europe.) Belgium edged out Poland for least coolest nationality status.
“We hear a lot in the media about anti-Americanism,” explained Lloyd Price, Badoo’s director of marketing. “But we sometimes forget how many people across the world consider Americans seriously cool.”
People who actually work across borders say the same thing. In real life, Americans are welcomed across Europe, often treated with curiosity and respect, especially those from major US cities. The “ugly American” stereotype doesn’t survive contact with reality. It lives entirely in media fairytales.

"Europeans in general, and all the European businesses that I've made contact with during my years in the industry, they're always welcoming to Americans," explains Albertynas, who's CEO and co-founder of Ratepunk, a startup whose browser extension scans major travel booking sites to uncover the lowest price on hotel rooms.
"Especially when they are from New York or LA, everybody is kind of putting them on a pedestal. So, actually on the contrary to the ugly American fad, everybody loves Americans."
This final clip exposes how the distortion happens in real time. That BBC edit of J6 footage was used to imply an intent that wasn’t there. Words were spliced, context was removed, and a left-wing narrative was fully manufactured. The same misleading clip that aired overseas was later shown to a US jury, shaping perceptions not just of Trump but of Americans themselves. This isn’t journalism; this is pure, unadulterated propaganda.

BOMBSHELL: Edited BBC clip used as evidence at J6 trial Enrique Tarrio confirms the exact same edited clip aired by the BBC was shown to his jury - falsely implying President Trump said something he never did. “It wasn’t until weeks ago I realized - those words weren’t even close together. They were 40 minutes apart.” @NobleOne says @theJusticeDept knew the clip was misleading, used it anyway, and now legal action against both the @BBC
and the DOJ is on the table. Key detail? The clip cut out @POTUS’s actual words: “We’re going to peacefully and patriotically make our voices heard.” Tarrio: “That fake clip didn’t just influence my trial - it influenced the President’s case and justice itself.” How is this not prosecutorial misconduct?

DEBRIEFING
What keeps showing up, over and over, is the gap between America as it’s lived and America as it’s sold. People who actually come here do not experience a country full of rage addicts looking for their next enemy. They experience friendliness, casual kindness, openness, and a culture that still defaults to goodwill.
That disconnect is manufactured. Foreign press outlets and US legacy media feed off of each other, recycling the same garbage over and over. When Americans are portrayed as monsters, every political agenda becomes easier to justify. When Trump and his supporters are painted as dangerous lunatics, editing footage or stripping context stops feeling unethical and starts feeling necessary.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world keeps bumping into the real thing. They walk away confused because what they were warned about does not match what they experienced. Sure, America has problems. Division exists. No one is pretending otherwise.
NOW YOU KNOW
The idea that Americans are defined by hatred is a story pushed by people who need the country to look broken in order to control it.
